This kind of came up in school today while some girls were goofing around curling each others hair with a curling iron.
1. Why do girls generally wear their hair longer than guys? This hasn't always been true historically, so is it societal or not?
2. Why do girls do stuff to their hair, like curling it and so on? To look sexy, to feel feminine, to attract guys, to feel good about themselves, to have fun/enjoy it? So on. What do you say?...

Hair and Curls... girls...?
I think it is partly due to society, in the 80' sit started to become fashionable for women to have short hair. And in the same way now (in the UK) it's very popular for hair to be straightened, in the 80's it was very popular for perms.
I think long hair on men looks very attractive. There's also the fact that short hair takes up less trouble. Also, because of society long hair on men seems to be frowned on as untidy or hippish. If a man was getting a job as a lawyer/bank manager etc and he had all this long hair flowing I think people would probably expect him to tie it back, or think it looked very messy. Which is unfair.
2. All different reasons. Most things to do with fashoin and looks isn't to impressive men but to impress other women. If you go into a pub full of people the men probably wont notice much about the fashoin/hair but it will be the women that are thinking 'Oh look at her hair, makeup, clothes' etc.
I like to mess around with my hair because it's fun, I like to look different day to day and try out what suits me best. Everyone likes to look attractive.
Hair and Curls... girls...?
Long hair=femeninity. Its just the way its evolved.
I personally had my hair cut short a while ago, and it shocked me how manly I felt.
I'm quickly growing my long hair back.
With long hair, you just FEEL prettier.
I mean, who wouldn't? If you have a nice head of hair, its quite an eye-catcher.
Its lovely to have shiny sheet of softness falling down on your back.
Why do we curl our hair and stuff?
Because we can.
Its something to change, its something to do.
Hair and Curls... girls...?
1. I don't really have an answer to this one, but I'd say it has to do with how society effects our preferences. Many girls think long/medium-long hair is beautiful, and I'm guessing it's just because we're used to longer hair on girls.
2. When a girl does things to her hair it can be due to a variety of things (such as the things you mentioned). Some do it because it's fun to experiment with their hair, others do it purely to look nice to others, which goes along with wanting to feel good/wanting to attract guys. Basically, girls do stuff to their hair for the above reasons, and different combinations of them.
Hair and Curls... girls...?
1. I truly don't know, I'm going to guess that it is societal influence.
2. Hair can be so much fun, you can do so much with it (especially w/ the more hair you have). Changing up your look makes it interesting for both girls (%26amp; guys like to see it as well). It is for all the reasons you listed: sexy, feminine, feeling good about oneself, etc.
Hair and Curls... girls...?
1. Well, some girls generally wear their hair longer than guys because its more feminine. Males usually have short hair, and if a female with long hair decides to cut her hair, she may feel as if she looks manly. But if that is her preference, then she will be happy with her decision.
2. Some girls like to experiment with their hair or change up their look. Some do it for business purposes, such as models. Others like to get the opinion of their peers or fellow friends. For example, a girl with very long hair could braid her hair in pigtails one day, curl it the next, then slick it back into a bun the day after. In another instance, a girl with very short hair could do a number of things, such as wear it flat to her head one day, spike it up with gel the next, then design a mohawk the day after. But it all depends on your hair type. Regardless of the length, there is always something to do with your hair.
Hair and Curls... girls...?
sigh...in school curling there hair!
does anyone else see the real issue?
WTH happened to our educational system?
Hair and Curls... girls...?
1. I would say because of the culture. Guys with long hair are generally seen as rebels. I don't mind a guy with long hair as long as it's kept clean and neat. Women with long hair are usually seen as more feminine. I've got long hair, and every man I've been with absolutely loved it. My bf plays with it all the time. My sister in law cut hers short, and my brother just about had a cow! In general, men just seem to like it better when their woman has long hair.
2. I'd say all those reasons. Although in a lot of the fashion magazines, it always seems that if they are doing a makeover on a girl with long hair, they always want to chop it off. If the girl's hair is curly, they want to straighten it. I've never understood this, because it just goes against what I said above about being feminine. Mine is long and curly, I just wouldn't look right with it short and/or straight (though the curly part is artificially created.) I just ignore the ones that have that old-fashioned idea that women over a certain age (usually between 35-40) shouldn't have long hair. I'm 43 and I'm going to be the old lady with the long white hair.
Hair and Curls... girls...?
We're girls silly, we like that stuff!
1. because they think long hair is more feminine and sexy, although I personally believe that women can have all different lengths of hair and it can still be sexy. Halle Berry for instance, to me she looks much better with short hair.
2. you covered most of the reasons.
But I also think that a lot of girls dress for other girls. They think they're out shining them.
